Acid Witch: Witchtanic hellucinations

Surely someone has covered this before, but thankfully like a roach venturing out at night to eat the scraps of food which fall from your mouth and onto the floor… I’m here. And thrilled to be reviewing an album that incorporates all of my major interests: death/doom, cornball horror movies, drugs, and saggy witch tits. Which pretty much describes a typical night at Duff’s flat if you sub out the death/doom for Harry Potter outfits and the tits with childcock. And switch the horror for Teletubbies and the drugs for Jesus juice.
With tunes like these, there’s no need to write an epic novel about which riffs convey atmosphere and yadda yadda. Think ze Razorback records sense of humor wrapped around some quite Hooded Menace-influenced slow punishment. The dude singing (and riffing?) here IS ov that uncircumcised penis band themselves – go figure. Instead of being oppressive and grim like HM da Witch goes for a lighthearted tone courtesy of some keyboards, some 70’s guitar work, and a laudably dumb concept. Seriously, I inhale the evil of the witchcraft bong ?!? I’ll bet you fuckers do.
My complaints would be with the overly simplistic songwriting (both a strength and at points a weakness) and the vocals. Not enough variation in Growltown, like Menace, and the reverb effect used constantly on them can get pretty annoying. But these are minor quibbles with an otherwise very entertaining disc. If low brain-power witch-obsessed doomdeath sounds like an even remotely tempting brew to you, “Witchtanic…” should already be bubbling in your cauldron.
Oh, and what is a cauldron cave? Is it a cave containing cauldrons, or one made out of them? The lyrics suggest the former, but you can’t fault a man for dreaming big…
